On 19 September, 1,200 people will gather at NDSM to create a large-scale participatory artwork in solidarity with Belarusian political prisoners.
Wearing masks bearing the faces of real prisoners, participants will transform pots, buckets, cans and lids into instruments, creating a powerful collective soundscape across a temporary 60-metre tribune.
No musical experience is required. For 20 minutes, your sound becomes someone else’s voice — and your presence becomes part of an artwork that can exist only once, and only if we create it together.
Organised by Belarusian and Ukrainian art practitioners, the performance will draw attention to the hundreds of political prisoners still behind bars in Belarus, since the stolen elections of 2020 and raise awareness of the fragility of freedom, also in a long established democracy like the Netherlands.
The artist and the author of the original artistic concept is Maxim Tyminko, responsible for the artistic development and realisation of the work.
Participation in the event is free. Register at MakeNoise.Art
