The photo exhibition highlights life under Russian occupation in Crimea and the persecution of journalists, activists, and relatives of civilian prisoners. Photographs and personal stories document repression, arrests, and the suffering of those affected and their families.

A special focus is placed on the experiences of the Crimean Tatars, who continue to show courage despite years of repression and refuse to give up hope for justice. The exhibition sheds light on ongoing human rights violations in Crimea and honors the bravery of citizen journalists who document the truth despite great personal risk.

Our speakers:

Sasha Barkova is the sister of the imprisoned artist Bohdan Ziza. In May 2022, he poured blue and yellow paint over the facade of the occupation administration and has been imprisoned ever since. Sasha is campaigning for his release and works internationally to raise awareness of Russian war crimes in occupied Crimea.

Leniie Umerova is a Crimean Tatar human rights activist, former political prisoner. She was arrested in 2022 at the Georgian–Russian border on fabricated espionage charges and spent two years in Russian captivity. Today, Leniie advocates internationally for the rights of political prisoners from occupied Crimea and draws attention to Russia’s systematic repression.

Admission is free. The event will be held in English.
