Together with its Ukrainian partner organisation Vostok SOS, LIBERECO has published a report on the situation of civil society in the Luhansk region in eastern Ukraine.
How does civil society in the eastern Ukrainian conflict work? What problems does it face? How can local activists best be supported? When talking about our work internationally, we often face these questions.
From July to December 2019, we set out to find some substantial answers to these questions. Together with Vostok SOS and thanks to a grant from the German Federal Foreign Office, we travelled the front-line territories of the Ukrainian-controlled region of Luhansk, visited local institutions, offered civil society training and spoke to many different people.
The result is a comprehensive report on civil society in the Luhansk region. The focus is on five urban centres: Severodonetsk, Stanytsia Luhanska, Shchastya, Popasna, and Zolote. Except for Severodonetsk, all the towns are neighbouring the front line.
The report informs about the situation of civil society in the Luhansk region. By identifying current problems and needs, it may inspire people to support specific causes. Moreover, it can help organisations that want to get involved in the region orient themselves and adapt future projects to the region’s needs.
