Their voices have been silenced. Yours hasn’t. Because where freedom is denied, every word matters.
In Belarus, at least 900 people are imprisoned for political reasons. In Ukraine, hundreds of civilian women are being held in Russian captivity, with more than 300 cases officially confirmed. Human rights organisations have also documented at least 1,700 cases of women of various ages being detained in the occupied territories since the beginning of Russian aggression. Behind every number is a person with their own story, hopes and dreams, and loved ones waiting for their return.
As part of Berlin Freedom Week, the NGO LIBERECO – Partnership for Human Rights e.V. invites you to show solidarity with political prisoners in Belarus and Ukrainian civilian detainees held in Russian captivity.
At several postcard-writing stations, LIBERECO will introduce some of the detainees and share their personal stories. Forum participants can write a postcard to a female political prisoner in Belarus or a Ukrainian civilian woman held in Russian captivity, or simply sign a pre-written postcard. For anyone unsure of what to write, sample messages and translations will be available on site.
Because even the smallest gesture can make a big difference. Where freedom is denied, every word matters. And sometimes, solidarity begins with a single postcard.
Participation is free of charge. No prior knowledge or special language skills are required. Everyone is warmly welcome!
