Emergency Relief for Vulnerable Groups in Kharkiv (2026)

In Kharkiv region, we fill gaps in the humanitarian supply for vulnerable groups by providing tailored and flexible humanitarian assistance.

SITUATION

SITUATION

The humanitarian crisis in Kharkiv has been further exacerbated by the ongoing Russian offensive. Targeted attacks on energy infrastructure in particular are having a significant impact on people’s livelihoods. Long interruptions to electricity and heating supplies can be life-threatening in the cold winter months. Vulnerable groups such as older people, internally displaced persons, and single parents face the challenge of getting through the winter without adequate energy supplies and vital resources.

OUR GOAL

OUR GOAL

With our emergency and winter relief for particularly vulnerable people in Kharkiv, we aim to close gaps in humanitarian care in 2026 and provide needs-based support to a total of 7,320 households. Our goal is to reduce winter-related mortality, minimize health risks, and ensure the supply of essential goods.

HOW WE HELP

In partnership with our long-standing local partners, we can identify and close gaps in the humanitarian supply for vulnerable groups. Our activities include:

  • Relief supplies for vulnerable groups: Vulnerable internally displaced persons throughout the region and people in frontline areas cut off from basic services receive food and hygiene products.
  • “Mama-Mobil”: Vulnerable parents with small children in Kharkiv city receive tailored relief supplies including diapers, baby food or formula, and personal care products distributed monthly in their neighborhoods.
  • Winter relief: Vulnerable rural households receive sufficient firewood (7 m³/household) or the equivalent amount of briquettes for 5 winter months, ensuring they can maintain body temperature, prepare warm meals, and sustain a basic standard of living.

Between 2024 and September 2025, our emergency relief for Kharkiv supported 12,178 people. In the current project phase, we aim to reach:

  • 5,950 households with food packages and hygiene packages. Individuals with care needs receive specialized hygiene products, while newly evacuated persons receive everyday items such as kitchen utensils, bedding, towels, candles, and first-aid kits.
  • 1,200 parents with small children through the “Mama-Mobil,” most of whom are single mothers.
  • 170 households through winter relief measures with adequate heating supplies to safely get through the harsh winter months.
